Stay safe on the roads this Easter

With the Easter weekend upon us, we can expect higher traffic volumes as many South Africans hit the roads for a well-deserved break. Road safety starts with YOU! Please drive responsibly.

If you are going to be on the road this Easter weekend, here are a few road tips from us to help make your trip safer and enjoyable:

  • Rest before your travel: Get a good night’s rest before setting out on your road trip.
  • Don’t text and drive: Put away all electronic devices; if you are using a GPS, ensure that your passenger is the designated person to assist with this.
  • Don’t drink and drive: You could spend your Easter weekend behind bars! Avoid drinking and driving. If you are going to be drinking, please make sure you have a designated (sober) driver to make sure you get to your destination safely!
  • Do not overtake if it is not safe to do so: Only when it is legal and safe.
  • Everyone must wear seatbelts: Ensure that everyone in the vehicle wears their seatbelt, including passengers in the back seat. Children 12 years and younger should be strapped into a car seat or booster seat. It could save a life, and it is the law!
  • Be courteous to other drivers: Like you, all other road users want to get to their destinations too.
  • Pedestrians, be vigilant: Wear reflective vests, sashes, or other clothing items to make yourself stand out, especially at night on dimly or badly lit roads, at crossroads and other designated areas. Only cross the road when it is safe to do so; pedestrians should not walk on or next to a highway.

From all of us at AIB, we would like to wish you and your loved ones a happy and safe Easter. Have a blessed holiday.
